Women of the ELCA
PURPOSE
The West Clermont Women of the ELCA plan their activities based on this mission statement.
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
MEMBERSHIP
All confirmed women members of our church, but we welcome any who cares to join.
ORGANIZATION
We have three general meetings a year and meet monthly in circles. To accommodate individual schedules, there is morning circle, an afternoon circle and an evening circle. The main focus of each circle meeting is a bible study and sharing of ideas about a pre-selected text. We also have a business meeting.
OFFERINGS
Offerings for the WELCA and our chosen projects are given during both the circle and general meetings. Our special offerings go to designated needs such as abused women’s shelters and world hunger.
COMMITTEE & INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENTS
Committees are responsible for helping our church function smoothly. We serve funeral meals, take care of the altar, decorate the Christmas tree and church. The talents of individuals are utilized to make church banners and baptismal towels, and assist with weddings and receptions when that help is requested.
STEWARDSHIP
One of our strong commitments is to our stewardship projects. School, personal care, and baby care kits are assembled and sent to Lutheran World Relief twice a year. The ladies quilt and enjoy fellowship on Tuesday morning. About 100 quilts are sent to missions each year. A few are kept for local needs and each graduating high school senior receives one. Each circle has one or more projects, so individual talents and interests can be utilized. We provide funds and help with the needs of the junior choir, Sunday school, kitchen, altar, and local food shelf. The Good Samaritan Centers in West Union and Postville ask us to serve chapel services and serve and provide entertainment for the birthday parties.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Members attend workshops and conventions to keep informed of changes for our organization and help us to continue growing in our faith.
There is a great need and a great opportunity to serve our church and our God. We would love to have all of our women be active members. Ladies who do not belong to our church are welcome also. Please contact any member about joining us.
